your day
This is not your average weekend walk. We have designed a multi-sensory, fully immersive three-part journey that perfectly blends adrenaline, heritage, and open-fire culinary history.
The Challenge: Go Ape Axe Throwing *
We begin the day by awakening your inner warrior. Partnering with the expert instructors at Go Ape, you will step up to the throwing lanes for a thrilling target axe throwing session. You will learn the classic techniques of hurling a real axe safely, building up from practice throws to a fun, friendly tournament to find the camp’s ultimate marksman. No prior experience is needed—the Go Ape team will have you hitting the bullseye in no time.
The Journey: Leeds Castle Historical Walk *
With our adrenaline pumping, we will set off into the magnificent parkland paths surrounding the “loveliest castle in the world.” Your guide for this journey is local historian and North Downs Way Ambassador Ben Crozier. Ben will completely transform your view of the landscape, peeling back the layers of time to reveal tales of medieval kings, fortress sieges, and royal secrets. It is a relaxed, social walk filled with fascinating stories you won’t find in standard guidebooks.
The Reward: An Authentic Campfire Feast
As we meander back into camp, the true magic begins. We pull back the heavy cast-iron lids of our Dutch ovens to reveal a hot, steaming medieval dinner cooked entirely over wood coals. In true historical fashion, there are no plastic plates here. You will be served right into traditional bread trenchers —thick, dense, crusty loaves that absorb the rich gravy. Tear off pieces of your “plate” to soak up the feast! We will finish the afternoon around with a hot, spiced apple dessert and great conversation.
*Depending on final group sizes, we may split into two smaller groups and rotate the itinerary. This means half of us will set off on the historical walk with Ben while the other half tackles the axe throwing first, swapping over halfway through the afternoon. Either way, everyone gets the full, action-packed experience before we all gather back at camp to enjoy our campfire feast together!
