Sunrise over the Downs: an early morning walk from Wye
A quick intro
Join us on Saturday 26th September for a memorable early morning walk to witness sunrise over the North Downs from one of Kent’s most iconic viewpoints. Starting from Wye village at 5:00am, this special guided walk heads out in the quiet of dawn, climbing steadily towards the Wye Crown as the first light begins to appear on the horizon.
Following a recently resurfaced track, the ascent is smooth and well-defined, making for a comfortable climb even in the early hours. Reaching the North Downs Way, we pause to take in the sunrise as it breaks over the rolling landscape, casting light across the Wye Crown and surrounding countryside.
After this highlight, the walk continues along peaceful countryside footpaths, circling through the beautiful surrounding landscape before gradually returning to Wye village. Learn more aboutthis wonderful walk
Experience the beauty of the North Downs at first light on this guided sunrise walk from Wye, led by the experienced Boots on Adventures team. This carefully timed route offers a unique opportunity to see the landscape transform as day breaks, with far-reaching views and a calm, early morning atmosphere that feels a world away from the busier hours later in the day.
Starting in Wye village before sunrise, the walk begins with a steady climb towards the Wye Crown, one of the most recognisable landmarks in the area. The track leading up has recently been resurfaced, providing a firm and even footing underfoot, which is especially welcome in low light conditions.
As we reach the North Downs Way, the landscape begins to open out, revealing sweeping views across the Kent countryside. This is where we pause to watch the sunrise, as the first light spreads across the hills, fields, and woodland below. The changing colours and stillness of the early morning create a memorable moment and a highlight of the walk.
From here, the route continues along sections of the North Downs Way before branching off onto quieter countryside footpaths. These paths lead us through a varied landscape of open fields, gentle slopes, and rural scenery that feels particularly peaceful in the early hours.
The circular route then gradually returns towards Wye village, completing a rewarding walk that combines iconic views and the simple pleasure of being out in nature at the start of the day.
With a relaxed pace and guidance throughout, this walk is perfect for those looking to experience the North Downs in a different light, enjoy a sociable early start, and take in one of the most beautiful sunrise spots in Kent.
