Learn more aboutthis wonderful walk

If you’re after a peaceful day out with wide open views and barely a hill in sight, this 15.5 km circular walk from Higham might be just what you’re looking for. Starting and ending near the quiet village, the route gently meanders through low-lying countryside, skimming the edge of the hauntingly beautiful Shorne Marshes.

This is a walk that feels miles away from the rush of modern life. The air is still, the skies are huge, and the paths are often empty — except for the odd dog walker or a curious heron wading in the reeds. You’ll follow tracks across old farmland and grazing marsh, with views stretching out across the Thames Estuary. On a clear day, you might even spot distant ships gliding along the water, silently threading their way to the sea.

The route is flat all the way — no climbs, no tricky terrain — making it perfect for those who want a longer stretch of the legs without testing their stamina. It’s ideal for beginner hikers, birdwatchers, or anyone craving a slower, more mindful pace.

Expect to see swans, egrets, and flocks of waders darting across the sky. There’s something timeless about this landscape — a sense that not much has changed here in centuries.

A couple of things to keep in mind: the marsh paths can get squelchy after rain, so waterproof boots are a good shout. And because shade is in short supply, pack your sun hat and plenty of water on a hot day.

This is a walk that doesn’t try too hard to impress — and that’s exactly its charm. Just open skies, quiet paths, and nature doing its thing. Simple, beautiful, and soul-soothing.

The walk starts promptly on time. If you’re running a bit behind schedule, give us a call to inform us.
