A quick intro

Join us on Sunday, 15th February 2026 for a guided walk from the historic village of Chilham to Chartham, exploring two of Kent’s most celebrated long-distance routes: the Stour Valley Trail and the North Downs Way. This scenic walk follows the tranquil waters of the Great Stour before climbing gently onto Kent’s own National Trail, offering a rich mix of riverside paths and downland scenery.

Passing through vineyards, orchards and open meadows,  the route showcases the quieter, timeless landscapes of the Stour Valley. With rolling hills, classic Kent countryside, and opportunities to spot local wildlife, this walk offers a rewarding winter escape that blends natural beauty and rural heritage — finishing with a well-earned cream tea at the Church Mouse in Chartham.

Learn more aboutthis wonderful walk

Join us on Wednesday 11 November for a scenic 6.5 mile guided walk starting in the historic village of Chilham. Parking is available at the village car park (free at the time of writing), and Chilham railway station is approximately a 10 minute walk from the car park, making the start point accessible for those arriving by train.

Chilham sits within the Kent Downs landscape, where the valley is characterised by farmland, woodland, parkland and the winding River Stour. The river itself has long been an important route through the landscape and helped shape settlement in the valley.

This varied countryside route links two of Kent’s best-known long-distance trails, following the North Downs Way. From Chilham, we head onto the chalk downland of the North Downs, enjoying open hillside walking, wide views, orchards, and vineyards in classic Kent scenery. The return leg follows the gentler landscape of the Great Stour Valley, closely tracing the calm waters of the River Stour.

The contrast between the elevated downland paths and the low-lying river valley offers a rewarding and well-balanced walk, highlighting the diversity of Kent’s countryside. Along the way, there are opportunities to observe local wildlife and appreciate the quieter rural landscapes that define this part of Kent.

The walk starts promptly on time. If you are running behind schedule, please give us a call to let us know.
