Boughton Under Blean weekday evening walk guided walks

Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and join us for a summer evening walk through the beautiful countryside surrounding Boughton-under-Blean. This 6-mile circular route explores ancient woodland, rolling farmland and peaceful country lanes in one of Kent’s most historic landscapes.

Starting from the village of Boughton-under-Blean, we’ll head out across the edge of the golf course before entering the tranquil surroundings of Court Wood. The route continues through woodland paths and countryside tracks towards Hickman’s Green, offering a wonderful mix of shaded woodland and open views across the Kent Downs National Landscape.

Boughton-under-Blean has a history stretching back centuries and sits close to the ancient routeway known as Watling Street, once used by the Romans to connect London with Canterbury and the Kent coast. The village itself grew in importance during the medieval period as travellers, pilgrims and merchants passed through on their journeys across Kent.

As we explore the countryside surrounding the village, we’ll pass through landscapes that have changed little over the centuries. Court Wood forms part of the extensive woodland that once covered much of the Blean, one of the largest areas of ancient woodland in southern England. These woods have provided timber, fuel and livelihoods for local communities for hundreds of years and remain an important haven for wildlife today.

The quieter lanes around Hickman’s Green reveal a more rural side of Kent, with fields, hedgerows and woodland creating a patchwork landscape that is particularly beautiful on a summer evening. Keep an eye out for deer, birds of prey and the rich variety of flora and fauna that thrive in this corner of the county.
