A quick intro
On 22 February, Ben will be leading a history walk in the Tonbridge area of Kent.
The walk will begin at the Green in the village of Matfield — a quaint and charming spot, awarded the title Kent Village of the Year in 2010.
Our footpath will take us over rivers and through open fields as we make our way to Brenchley, a village that gained historical significance through its close involvement in post-medieval ironmaking.
We will then return to Matfield through orchards and woodland, hearing stories from the area’s rich and varied history along the way.

- We welcome friendly dogs on our walks, provided they remain on a lead at all times. The owner is fully responsible for their dog throughout the walk.
- We take photos during our walks for promotional and training purposes. If you prefer not to be included, just let us know on the day.
- Cancellation policy states: Full payment becomes due if a user cancels within 4 days of the activity. Any person cancelling outside of 4 days, will receive a credit available to use within 90 days. Cancel at least 4 days before the event to receive a credit note for a future walk, valid for 90 days.

Join us on Saturday, 22nd February for a guided historical stroll between two of Kent’s most picturesque Wealden villages — Matfield and Brenchley. This gentle and beautifully varied walk showcases classic Kentish countryside, from open fields and river crossings to peaceful orchards and woodland trails.
We’ll begin at Matfield Green, taking advantage of the parking around the village’s charming central green. From here, our route winds across fields and over small rivers as we make our way toward Brenchley, a village with deep historic roots and a surprising number of stories hidden behind its quiet lanes and timber-framed buildings.
On the return leg to Matfield, we’ll wander through orchards and woodland, with plenty of chances to soak in the rural scenery. Along the way, you’ll hear tales of a rebellious Great War poet who made his mark on this landscape, a local landlord battling persistent floods, and the dramatic moment when Kentish peasants rose up and helped shake Medieval England.
This walk blends storytelling, gentle adventure, and the timeless beauty of the Weald — perfect for anyone who enjoys exploring the countryside while uncovering the history woven into it.
