From Cobham to the Countryside: A Summer Stroll Through History, Vineyards, and Village Tales
A quick intro
On the 20th of July, we’ll be setting off from the picturesque village of Cobham for a circular countryside walk. Starting at Cobham Car Park just off The Street, we’ll explore historic paths and rural landscapes, taking in several nearby villages and stunning natural views along the way.
Our route takes us through the heart of Cobham—once familiar to both Charles Dickens and Samuel Pepys—before passing Cobham Hall and the Darnley Mausoleum. From there, we’ll join sections of the Weald Way and North Downs Way, visiting the outskirts of Halling and the village of Luddesdown. Expect sweeping views of the Medway, peaceful meadows, woodland trails, and even a vineyard or two.
This walk blends scenic variety with rich storytelling. Along the way, you’ll hear tales of a father-son trip that went badly wrong, a cricketing legacy born from defeat, and a curious building deemed too pagan by an Archbishop. These stories, paired with the natural and architectural beauty of the area, promise a walk that’s as thought-provoking as it is refreshing.

- We welcome friendly dogs on our walks, provided they remain on a lead at all times. The owner is fully responsible for their dog throughout the walk.
- We take photos during our walks for promotional and training purposes. If you prefer not to be included, just let us know on the day.
- Cancellation policy states: Full payment becomes due if a user cancels within 4 days of the activity. Any person cancelling outside of 4 days, will receive a credit available to use within 90 days. Cancel at least 4 days before the event to receive a credit note for a future walk, valid for 90 days.

On the 20th of July, join us for a scenic and story-rich walk beginning in the historic village of Cobham, Kent. Starting from the Cobham Car Park just off The Street, we’ll explore the countryside via a circular route that links ancient paths, neighbouring villages, and some of the area’s most fascinating historical landmarks.
We’ll stroll through Cobham, a village steeped in history and once frequented by Charles Dickens and Samuel Pepys. Our route passes the grand Cobham Hall, once the seat of the Earls of Darnley, and the striking Darnley Mausoleum, built in 1786 but never actually used for burials. From there, we’ll follow parts of the Weald Way and the North Downs Way, heading toward Halling and the remote village of Luddesdown. Expect vineyards, views of the River Medway, and a landscape shaped by centuries of rural life.
This walk combines peaceful countryside walking with a deep sense of place and history. As we pass through forests, fields, and villages, we’ll hear true tales—from a disastrous father-son adventure to a cricketing tradition born of failure, and even a building so unusual it drew the disapproval of the Archbishop of Canterbury.
